This is a question I love to ask people! Even if it’s a quilter I have never met before, she (or he) is always happy to chat about a current project. It’s the best ice breaker!

Here are a few things I am working on.

I finished all of the blocks for this Log Cabin quilt. I had not planned on making a Log Cabin quilt, but the fabrics were so colorful and happy when I made a sample for a FB Live event that I couldn’t help myself. Find the free quilt block pattern which finishes at 12″. For a nice baby quilt, make nine or 12 blocks. For a throw, try four blocks by five blocks. They go together quickly!

I taught a Dresden Plate class on Zoom this week and that led to starting another quilt. I love this peppermint look so much that I’m going to make at least 12 blocks to set three by four. And possibly more.

If you want to try Dresden Plate, see our series of blog posts with step by step instructions!

I’m also working on some blocks that came as a 10-month BOM from Fig Tree Quilts a couple of years back. The packages of fabric and patterns arrived faithfully each month but I didn’t even have time to open them. I stored them together so at least I had that going for me, but then I forgot about them. Recently they were unearthed as I looked for something else, and voila, another quilt was started.

Scrap it up

But my style is scrappy, and these fabrics were a little too similar for my tastes.

So I went shopping in my stash in order to scrap it up. My experience has been that you don’t want a red that matches. You want a red that clashes!

The more reds you add, the better it will look.

When I talk to people about scrap quilts during quilt guild programs, I share the secret that the easiest place to begin making scrap quilts is with a one color quilt.

BLUE. GREEN. ORANGE.

Believe it or not, it’s true. And here’s another secret. The easiest one of all?

RED!!!

I have eight blocks done and am really excited about how it’s coming together.

And in other news, I’m about to start quilting a very exciting piece on the HQ Capri. Pictures coming soon!

What are YOU working on? Leave me a comment with the answer. And remember to use this question as the perfect ice breaker next time you meet a quilter!
