I am usually unable to keep up with sew alongs and quilt alongs, which are really popular among online quilt makers.

But when Temecula Quilt Co. posted their intent to run one starting in January, the scrappy sampler look drew me right in.

This is a free sew along but you need Sheryl Johnson’s book Returning to Temecula. Sheryl is the proprietor at Temecula Quilt Co. in Temecula, California.

The first clue was for making this sweet little block. I was done in minutes. I thought this sew along would be a breeze!

Week 2 was a bit more time-consuming with Pinwheels and setting triangles but still very doable.

I made the required number and moved on. Since this is just for fun, I was okay with less-than-perfect intersections.

I enjoyed making the Week 3 half-square triangles. I use Triangles on a Roll, Thangles or I print my own with Triangulations software. I appreciate the accuracy of these methods. I don’t want to trim them all down because that feels like an extra and unnecessary step.

Week 4 was again more challenging. I think it’s great when a sew along host changes it up so that some weeks are easy and some require more time and effort. We made Square-in-a-Square blocks and added setting triangles.

Love me some bubble gum pink!

Week 5 was an easy Checkerboard. I have not added them to the piece just yet because sometimes I like to add my own twist. I will wait and complete the next few steps before I decide exactly how to combine them.

When I joined the rows, which are approaching 50″ long, I attached a walking foot to my HQ Stitch machine. It helps everything feed through evenly and you don’t end up with wonky rows or a wavy quilt top.
